O's eval

We spent most of the day at CDSA for Olivia's evaluation.

She's 32 months old.
Gross motor: 12 mo.
Fine motor: 23 mo.
Cognitive: 16 mo.
Receptive Communication: 20 mo.
Expressive Communication: 19 mo.
Adaptive/Self help and Social/Emotional: borderline delay
Educational: 24 mo.

Biggest delays are gross motor and communication (no shocker there.). Based on the standard scores, cognitive is only borderline delay.

They talked a lot about working on a "total communication approach". Pictures, signs, words- immersing her in language and getting her to point, sign, make sounds, speak words to get what she wants and needs.

Also, the pediatrician doesn't think she has any common AMC syndrome (like Beals or whistling face), but she does think there is some neurological issue. So, we are going to make an appt with a neurologist. We are also going to go back to genetics for further evaluation. And we are going to plan a trip to Delaware or Seattle to try and meet with an AMC team.

We asked about autism and the entire team agreed that they don't see any indication that she is autistic on any part of the spectrum. That was great news to hear.

Her eye test showed possible far sightedness in her right eye. So, we'll be going to a pediatric eye dr. in May to have further testing.

They were really thorough. I can't wait to get their full report.

And Brian took O to see Dr. Frick last week while I was in Charleston. Hip is in and the ball and cartilage are starting to grow more. Great news. He didn't seem concerned about fixing her thumb spacing on her left hand right now. And he told Brian that there really isn't any explanation for why she can't walk. He said that we should be looking for progress every six months and if that is happening, he is pleased. If she was regressing, then he would worry.

There are so many unknowns.... That's scary, but it's the ride we're on!!
