Those fingers

We went to Winston today to see Dr. Andrew Koman. We learned about him through the Cox family from the AMC support boards.
He was very nice. Quick and "academic", as Lindsey said he would be. But, I'm glad we went to see him. He had xrays taken of her hands while we were there. Basically, he feels that the risk and uncertainty of the outcome of surgery doesn't outweigh the chance of successful surgery. And even "successful surgery" can't be defined well at this point. An MRI might tell us more about the cartilidge in the fingers, but it isn't worth putting her under anesthesia. So, there isn't anything to be done, at least not at this point. Dr. Koman thinks the functionality she has now is probably what we should expect for the future. He said the OT can work to try and bend the fingers on her right hand and will hopefully have some success. He said he would like to think more about her fingers for a few months. We will go back to see him in July and see how she is doing and how Dr. Koman feels about everything then.
He did say that she has such an extremely mild case of arthrogryposis. We agreed. And we counted our blessings once again...
